Jason Kim concentrates his practice in the defense of workers' compensation claims. He provides a full range of services to both self-insured employers and insurance companies, including Professional Employer Organizations (PEO) and various Fortune 200 clients nationwide. Mr. Kim is also experienced with harassment, discrimination and employment contracts / agreements issues. Mr. Kim is certified by the California Board of Legal Specialization as a Specialist in Workers’ Compensation Law.

Mr. Kim applies his comprehensive understanding of the human resources and staffing industry, as well as his extensive experience in litigation defense, to communicate sound advice regarding exposure claims and complex compensation disputes.

He serves on several panels for premier insurance companies. Mr. Kim works to better serve his clients by sharing his experiences and knowledge of insurance coverage and allocation, bad faith, employment practices liability and professional liability, and by assisting them in the development and implementation of effective risk management programs.

He is lead counsel for Barrett Business Services, Inc., one of the country’s leading human resource companies. Mr. Kim also defends the Tribune, ATT Wireless and most recently Gannett (USA TODAY) in workers' compensation matters.

Mr. Kim is committed to serving his self-insured clients. He strives to achieve the best results and prides himself on being responsive to all his clients' needs.

Mr. Kim also represents many Korean-speaking clients in various business matters, as well as defending a number of sporting teams, including the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Kings, Los Angeles Sparks, Chicago Bears and the Chicago Cubs in workers' compensation claims.

Professional Background

Mr. Kim joined Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP in December 2002. He is a former member of the firm's executive committee and past chair of the firm's Asian Affinity Network. Prior to joining Hinshaw, Mr. Kim was an attorney with Kegel, Tobin & Truce.

Jason enjoys golf and poker. He is a low handicap golfer and has participated in the World Series of Poker for the past three years.

In the past, Jason played in numerous table tennis tournaments and was once ranked nationally by the USTTA. He considers himself a huge fan of soccer.
