Ronald Kammer Says Insurers Are Fully "On Board" With Connected Vehicle Technology
Ronald Kammer was featured in Florida Trend Magazine, discussing the potential benefits of connected vehicle technology on Florida roads. Florida reportedly has the nation's third-highest traffic fatalities and also ranks third in per-capita pedestrian fatalities.
Florida traffic engineers have started testing connected vehicle technology that feeds drivers traffic data from a network of roadside sensors. The technology would help prevent accidents by providing information about traffic speed and warning fast-moving vehicles when pedestrians approach crosswalks.
Kammer said that insurance companies are fully on board with connected vehicle technology and will likely incentivize insured drivers to use it when it becomes more widely available. Although some drivers may be hesitant to trust the technology, Kammer said he expects that to diminish over time, adding, "When people get more used to that technology, statistics say they are more apt to use it."
