Michael Murphy concentrates his litigation practice on defending insurance companies in insurance liability matters, including automobile accidents, catastrophic personal injury, wrongful death, ATV accidents, premises liability, product liability, construction, and legal and medical malpractice. During his 30-plus years of practice, Michael has secured first-chair jury verdicts and otherwise successfully tried or arbitrated more than 80 cases on behalf of his clients.

Michael was a member of the Journal of Dispute Resolution during law school. He began his career at Deloitte as a tax staff member.

Representative Matters

  • Obtained a defense verdict on behalf of a urologist and his practice in a medical malpractice action alleging unnecessary surgery to address intermittent testicular torsion.
  • Resolved a legal malpractice suit with a favorable defense verdict in a matter where the plaintiff sued over a missed statute of limitations. The plaintiff had asked for $8,000,000, and the jury awarded $780,000.
  • Obtained a favorable defense verdict in an ATV rollover death case. After reductions for comparative fault, the decedent’s family was only awarded $80,000.
  • Successfully tried an asbestos case involving mesothelioma on behalf of Wheeler Protective Apparel against the plaintiff represented by Ness Motley Loadhoalt Richardson & Poole LLC in Madison County, Illinois.
  • Obtained a favorable defense verdict in a dog attack case where the plaintiff, a UPS driver, claimed over $200,000 in verified wage loss and requested $1.6 million from the jury. The court entered judgment on liability against the defendant, and the jury awarded $16,000 – just one percent of the plaintiff’s request.
