The New York Law Journal Profiles Brian McGrath in a Q&A on Leadership, Mentorship, and the Business of Law
Profiled as a 2025 Distinguished Leader Honoree in the 2025 New York Legal Awards
Partner Brian McGrath, the co-chair of Hinshaw’s Consumer Financial Services practice, was recently profiled by The New York Law Journal in a Q&A that explores some of his proudest recent professional accomplishments, his approach to leadership, changes to the business and profession of law, mentoring, and the importance of hard work and learning from your failures.
Brian noted he was particularly proud of helping build a diverse and talented consumer financial services team, which has nearly tripled in size (from 38 to 112) in five years. He highlighted Jeffrey Kessler at Winston & Strawn as a valued mentor whose work in the sports law field Brian has sought to model after in his own leadership role at Hinshaw.
With regard to business of law developments, Brian anticipated that artificial intelligence will make lawyers better, more efficient, and capable of doing more, although proper guardrails, training, and oversight are essential. Finally, Brian offered advice to people considering a career in the law, noting that there is simply no substitute for hard work as a lawyer, that you will experience failures and struggles, and those failures offer an opportunity to learn from them and work even harder to get a better outcome the next time.
