Wendy Chang Appointed to American Bar Association Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility

August 4, 2015

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP announced today that Wendy Wen Yun Chang, a Los Angeles-based partner in the firm's Lawyers for the Profession® Practice Group, was appointed to American Bar Association (ABA) Standing Committee on Ethics and Professional Responsibility, effective at the close of the ABA's annual meeting on August 4, 2015.

As a member, Ms. Chang will support the Committee's development of model national ethics standards for lawyers and the judiciary and the drafting of ABA Formal Ethics Opinions interpreting and applying those standards, which are widely studied throughout the country. She also will consult with other ABA entities, state and local bars, law school communities, the legal news media, and the public on matters of emerging interest in the area of legal and judicial ethics.

This honor follows Ms. Chang's recent appointment as Advisor to the California State Bar's Commission for the Revision of the Rules of Professional Conduct. In that role she reviews policies and is helping draft a new set of ethics rules that will impact the future of the practice of law in California.

In addition to her commitment to legal ethics through leadership roles in national and statewide associations, Ms. Chang also is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association Professional Responsibility and Ethics Committee, and was awarded the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association's Presidential Award and "Best Lawyers Under 40" recognition in 2009 for her commitment to the legal community.

"Wendy has dedicated her career to the higher calling of thought leadership in ethics and professional responsibility. We are very proud of her work and look forward to her collaboration with the country's great thinkers on the ABA Standing Committee," said Kevin Joseph Burke, Hinshaw's Chairman. "Lawyers, teachers, and students will be well-served by her guidance on standards for ethical conformance in the new era of a technology and efficiency-based practice."

At Hinshaw, Ms. Chang focuses her practice in representing lawyers in complex matters involving the practice of the law, including risk management counseling, ethics, crisis management, fee-related issues, discipline defense, hotline counseling, and litigation defense. She also represents businesses in complex litigation and provides related advisory consultation. Ms. Chang is a Certified Specialist in Legal Malpractice Law by the State Bar of California's Board of Legal Specialization and is the Advisor to (and immediate past- Chair of) the State Bar of California's Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct.
