The article goes further in discussing some of the not so obvious risks firms may want to look at before laterally hiring.

Mr. Davis discusses mistakes and suggestions that firms can make to help them when hiring. Mr. Davis notes "Some of the biggest mistakes are made when laterals are rushed in and there's inadequate due diligence, integration and supervision." Mr. Davis lists common problems like poor conflict-checking and people claiming greater credentials. He also recommends centralizing the hiring process and notes "it's becoming more common to do a full-fledged personality test."
