Elizabeth Baker Authors Article on Alimony Reform in the Daily Business Review

Elizabeth S. Baker, a Miami-based partner at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, authored the article "Is This Alimony Reform? Bill Addresses Alimony, Child Custody" published by the Daily Business Review on March 30, 2016.

In the article, Ms. Baker examines the Florida legislature's attempt to reform alimony, as the nuclear family of common law days does not represent the majority of families today. The legislature has been working on alimony reform for three years, but there are still fundamental issues. The proposed statute evidences the progressive effort to erode the power of the judiciary and exhibits a definite flavor of disdaining the nonmonetary contributions of the dependent spouse and disfavoring women with dependent children.
