About Colleen

With more than two decades of litigation experience, Colleen has established a hybrid energy practice focused on matters arising from the production, refining, and distribution of energy from traditional and renewable sources. Colleen represents clients in oil and gas, natural resources, renewables, transportation, and other industries in a broad spectrum of transactions, contract negotiations, regulatory compliance and defense, and complex commercial litigation. Colleen draws on this client experience in serving as co-lead for Hinshaw's Energy & Environmental group.

Colleen also advises clients on emerging issues in Louisiana, including mineral law and carbon capture and sequestration. Among other areas, she is well versed in the development of state regulatory and legislative initiatives relating to the Louisiana Geologic Sequestration of Carbon Dioxide Act. She has deep familiarity with federal and state regulatory agencies and has represented clients before the Louisiana State Mineral and Energy Board, the Louisiana Department of Energy & Natural Resources, and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality, as well as the US Environmental Protection Agency and the Interior Board of Land Appeals.

Colleen has successfully defended oil and gas companies in Louisiana against landowner claims of soil and groundwater contamination arising from historical operations. She also advises energy companies in Louisiana and nationally at every step in the transition from traditional to renewable energy sources.

Experience

Represented a Louisiana landowner in a lease deal with Gulf Coast Sequestration that made possible a $603 million federal grant for what is one of the biggest carbon capture sequestration projects in Louisiana to date.
