About John

As a litigator, John focuses his practice on defending companies and individuals in claims related to personal injury, negligent security, automobile accidents, premises liability, medical malpractice, nursing home abuse and neglect, construction litigation, and product liability. John handles all phases of the litigation process from pre-suit to verdict, defending lawsuits in state and federal courts throughout the state and the nation, for local and national clients. His experience also includes rideshare-related cases.

John co-chairs Hinshaw's Pro Bono and Community Involvement Committee in Ft. Lauderdale, overseeing community involvement and events and assisting in the office pro-bono initiatives.

With nearly two decades of legal experience, John has built a well-rounded career primarily focused on civil defense. Over the years, he has served as an Assistant State Attorney for the Fourth Judicial Circuit of Florida, gaining valuable trial experience while prosecuting criminal cases. John has also spent time representing plaintiffs and handling personal injury cases, adding depth to his legal acumen and further broadening his litigation skills. This diverse background equips him with a comprehensive understanding of both sides of the legal landscape, making him a versatile and effective advocate.

Experience

Achieved a complete defense verdict in a personal injury case where the plaintiff sought over $15 million for alleged injuries, including a traumatic brain injury (TBI). Despite the defendant’s admission of negligence, the jury found no causal connection between the accident and the plaintiff’s claims. This case highlights that an admission of liability does not imply causation, emphasizing the need for plaintiffs to prove that their injuries were caused by the accident.
Secured a full defense verdict in a high-stakes $1.8 million automobile injury trial, successfully representing a major worldwide corporation. Refuted claims of negligence with an alcohol impairment defense, bolstered by compelling evidence and expert testimony, despite the plaintiff undergoing multiple surgeries.
Achieved a favorable verdict in an auto negligence trial with disputed liability, successfully arguing the case without the use of defense experts.
Obtained a full defense verdict for a defendant surgeon in a complex medical malpractice trial involving devastating injuries.
Obtained summary judgment in a premises liability case involving a slip-and-fall incident that resulted in surgical injuries.
