D.L. Morriss and Mohamed Sweify Elected as 2026–2027 NYSBA International Section Officers

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that Hinshaw attorneys Daniel (D.L.) Morriss and Mohamed Sweify have been elected to serve as officers of the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA) International Section. D.L. will serve as the Executive Vice Chair from June 2026 through May 2027, and Mohamed will serve as Secretary for the same term. Notably, Mohamed is the first Muslim and Arab American to be elected to serve in this role.
About the NYSBA International Section
The NYSBA International Section is a global community of lawyers dedicated to advancing the rule of law, professional education, and a worldwide network, with over 70 chapters and active councils in Latin America and Asia.
Members gain opportunities to organize or speak at webinars and conferences, engage through communities and in-person events, and collaborate through more than 40 substantive committees spanning areas from arbitration and trade to cybersecurity and human rights. The International Section also offers frequent virtual programs and maintains a strong, formal commitment to DEI.

About D.L.
D.L. concentrates his practice on representing regional and national financial institutions in high-stakes commercial litigation. His matters involve tort, contract, and statutory claims arising from complex commercial foreclosures, guaranty enforcement, loan liability disputes, and post-judgment collections. He also handles Uniform Commercial Code litigation, contract disputes, bankruptcy matters, and creditors’ rights issues. Beyond the financial services sector, D.L. regularly advises companies in general commercial litigation, including property management disputes involving commercial landlords and tenants, internal corporate governance conflicts, and a wide range of contract and tort claims.
In addition to his litigation practice, D.L. manages Hinshaw's cultural initiatives and affinity groups and chairs the firmwide Diversity Committee. As Hinshaw’s DEI Partner, he oversees the recruitment, retention, professional development, and advancement of diverse attorneys, and he facilitates networking and leadership opportunities across the firm.
About Mohamed
With proven experience managing motions, trials, and appeals in federal and state courts nationwide, Mohamed’s practice focuses on two principal areas: complex litigation in United States courts and international arbitration involving global and transnational disputes. He represents clients in high-value domestic and international matters across industries, including commercial, financial services, telecommunications, intellectual property, securities, partnerships, insurance, construction, and digital assets.
A bilingual attorney, Mohamed has extensive experience in international arbitration, representing corporations under major arbitration rules and advising on investor-state disputes before ICSID. He has been recognized on the “40 Under 40” lists of the Arab American Foundation and Middle East Policy Council, and holds several leadership roles in the New York State Bar Association.
