About Marissa
Marissa provides ethics and risk management guidance to lawyers and law firms and represents them in civil proceedings, handling all aspects of trial practice. She likewise defends attorneys in disciplinary actions before the Board of Bar Overseers and other grievance committees. In addition, Marissa regularly litigates civil actions brought against accountants, directors and officers, insurance agents and brokers, real estate professionals and property managers, financial advisors, notaries, and technology professionals.
Marissa also maintains an appellate practice. She has extensive experience prosecuting and defending appeals involving consumer financial matters related to mortgage servicers, lenders, and trustees of securitized mortgage trusts, including claims of predatory lending, mortgage fraud, violation of consumer protection statutes, and challenges to the right to foreclose.

Marissa has successfully represented clients in state and federal appellate and trial courts. Her published decisions include but are not limited to:
- Gargano v. Liberty Intern. Underwriters, Inc., 572 F.2d 45 (1st Cir. 2009).
- Phillips v. Prairie Eye Center, 530 F.3d 22, (1st Cir. 2008).
- Reliance Ins. Co. v. City of Boston, 71 Mass. App. Ct. 550 (2008).
- Cordi-Allen v. Halloran, 470 F.3d 25 (1st Cir. 2006).
- Diamond v. Automobile Ins. Co. of Hartford, Ct., 890 So. 2d 1248 (Fla. 3d DCA 2005).
- Acosta v. The District Board of Trustees of Miami-Dade Community College, 905 So. 2d 226 (Fla. 3d DCA 2005).
Other representative work includes:
- Secured a summary judgment victory for a national accounting and auditing firm that had been sued for contribution by a Boston law firm facing a $20 million legal malpractice claim in connection with legal advice concerning partial withdrawal liability under ERISA.

Did you know...
Marissa loves to cook and is constantly adding recipes to her all-time favorite cuisine: Asian. She is also a dedicated football fan, always rooting for the Patriots.
In 1990, Marissa was crowned Miss Massachusetts and competed in Miss America, earning scholarship money that helped finance her law school education.
Community/Civic Activities
- In addition to her practice, Marissa devotes time to pro bono work. Her efforts have included matters for the Youth Advocacy Foundation, Lawyers for Civil Rights, and the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseers, reflecting her dedication to public service.
