About John

John E. DeLascio represents domestic and international insurers and reinsurers in high-stakes insurance coverage and reinsurance disputes. With decades of experience at the intersection of complex litigation and the insurance industry, John is a trusted advisor to insurers navigating their most challenging exposures.

John's practice spans the full lifecycle of insurance disputes—from early risk counseling and policy drafting through coverage litigation, reinsurance arbitration, and appellate proceedings. He regularly handles extra-contractual and bad faith claims, declaratory judgment actions, and large-scale matters involving environmental contamination, mass torts, asbestos, sexual misconduct, lead paint, talc, silica exposures, sports concussions, and Managing General Agent (MGA) disputes. His experience encompasses both occurrence-based and claims-made policies across a wide range of lines, including General Liability, Professional Liability, D&O, E&O, EPL, Managed Care, First-Party Property, and Cyber. 

A recognized thought leader, John is a frequent speaker at leading industry conferences in the United States and abroad, including Global Access Week in London, ARIAS US, Perrin Conferences, and the Society of Environmental Insurance Professionals. He has published extensively on emerging coverage issues—from climate change and biometric privacy to medical monitoring claims and social inflation—in outlets such as the New York Law Journal, ARIAS US Quarterly, Defense Counsel Journal, and the Chambers and Partners Global Practice Guides. 

John has been recognized by The Best Lawyers in America® for Insurance Law every year since 2019, was named an Illinois Super Lawyer from 2015 to 2019, and was selected as a Leading Lawyer in Insurance Coverage & Reinsurance Law. He is actively involved in ARIAS US (co-chairing the Spring 2023 Conference), the Defense Research Institute (DRI), the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC), and the Professional Liability Underwriting Society (PLUS). 

John has also defended professionals against malpractice claims and consumer-related class actions involving the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and The Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) in federal and state trial and appellate courts.

John has argued cases in and has deep familiarity with federal and state courts across the United States.
