Effective January 1, 2022, Illinois began phasing out Per-and Polyfluoradlkyl Substances (PFAS), which have been commonly used in firefighting foam for decades. PFAS are able to effectively repel oil and water, reduce friction, and are excellent at putting out fires. However, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has determined there is scientific evidence that PFAS exposure and ingestion can result in a host of health hazards, including cancer, reproductive issues, and kidney problems. PFAS are persistent in the environment, build up in the human body over time, and are called "forever chemicals."

On May 28, 2021, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed an amendment to the Illinois Code of Civil Procedure, 735 ILCS 5/2-1303, that applies a 6% prejudgment interest rate on all damages awarded in personal injury and wrongful death cases. Starting July 1, 2021, all personal injury and wrongful death actions will begin to accrue prejudgment interest from the date the action is filed or July 1, 2021, whichever date is later. Prejudgment interest accrual is limited to five years.

The Occupational Health and Safety Act (the OHS) was signed into law in 1970 and established the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA), as part of the U.S. Department of Labor.[1] Under the so-called "general duties" provision in Section 5(a)(1) of the OHS, all employers are required to "furnish to each of his employees employment and a place of employment which are free from recognized hazards that are causing or are likely to cause death or serious physical harm to his employees."[2]
