About the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission
The Historic Preservation Advisory Commission (HPAC) is a City of Stamford body established in 2013 following an amendment to the City’s Charter. The Commission acts as a key advisory resource on issues related to local cultural heritage and historic preservation.
The Commission’s main responsibilities include advising city officials, boards, and departments on safeguarding cultural resources; recommending properties and sites for designation as historic districts or landmarks; and providing guidance on the design of structures and improvements within or near historic districts.
HPAC also acts as a liaison between the City and individuals and organizations involved in preservation efforts, maintains a catalog of Stamford’s cultural resources, and educates residents about historic preservation topics and concerns.
