Nicholas Ponzo Appointed to Stamford’s Historic Preservation Advisory Commission

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that senior counsel Nicholas Ponzo has been appointed to serve on the City of Stamford’s Historic Preservation Advisory Commission (HPAC). He was appointed by Mayor Caroline Simmons to a two-year term, extending to December 1, 2027.
About the Historic Preservation Advisory Commission
The Historic Preservation Advisory Commission (HPAC) is a City of Stamford body established in 2013 following an amendment to the City’s Charter. The Commission acts as a key advisory resource on issues related to local cultural heritage and historic preservation.
The Commission’s main responsibilities include advising city officials, boards, and departments on safeguarding cultural resources; recommending properties and sites for designation as historic districts or landmarks; and providing guidance on the design of structures and improvements within or near historic districts.
HPAC also acts as a liaison between the City and individuals and organizations involved in preservation efforts, maintains a catalog of Stamford’s cultural resources, and educates residents about historic preservation topics and concerns.

About Nicholas
Nicholas represents financial institution clients in a broad range of consumer financial services and commercial litigation matters. His practice focuses on complex disputes, including real property matters. Nicholas also regularly defends clients in litigation arising under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act and related consumer finance statutes, as well as credit card and loan disputes.
He brings a practical, client-focused approach to resolving high-stakes matters across the full spectrum of consumer lending and servicing litigation. Nicholas is admitted in New York and New Jersey, as well as the Eastern District of New York and the District of New Jersey.
During law school, Nicholas gained substantial experience through internships at several government offices, including the New York State Executive Chamber Counsel’s Office, the New York State Supreme Court in Kings County, the New York State Department of Financial Services, and the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. His academic achievements at Brooklyn Law School were recognized with the Robert K. Kaufman Book Prize and the Silver Public Service Award.
