Fernando Rivera-Maissonet Elected as HNBA Region II Governor and Board of Governors Member

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that Fernando Rivera-Maissonet has been elected as the Hispanic National Bar Association’s (HNBA) Region II (New York) Governor for the 2026–2028 term.
Fernando and his fellow elected officers and governors will be sworn in at the firm-sponsored HNBA/VIA 2026 Annual Convention Gala on Friday, September 11, in National Harbor, Maryland.
About the Hispanic National Bar Association
To better serve its members and mission, the HNBA is divided into 19 regions encompassing the United States, Puerto Rico, and its territories. The HNBA's 19 Regional Governors are members of the Board of Governors and ensure the execution of its local, regional, and national programs by working closely with the HNBA Executive Committee and the HNBA Affiliate Organizations nationwide.
About Fernando
Fernando is a seasoned financial services litigator with more than a decade of experience counseling banks and other financial institutions. His practice focuses on litigated foreclosure, declaratory judgment, quiet title, and breach-of-contract actions, as well as matters involving the New York State Department of Financial Services.
He regularly defends financial institutions against claims arising under federal and state consumer protection statutes, including TILA, RESPA, FDCPA, New York General Business Law § 349, and New York Banking Law §§ 6-l and 6-m.
Fernando is also a recognized leader in the legal community. He has held significant leadership roles in several professional organizations, including as a 2026 Fellow of the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, a former Next Generation Lideres Mentor with LatinoJustice PRLDEF, and a former member of the New York City Bar Association's Consumer Affairs Committee (Class of 2026). Additionally, he is active in the Conference on Consumer Finance Law, the Mortgage Bankers Association, and the Puerto Rican Bar Association.
