Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that partner April Toy of the firm’s Milwaukee office has been selected to participate in the Hispanic National Bar Association’s (HNBA) prestigious Puente Leadership Institute. She will be part of the inaugural class of this new leadership program.
About the Puente Leadership Institute
The Puente Leadership Institute (Puente) represents the next evolution of the HNBA and VIA Fund’s Su Carrera portfolio. It is a strategic, results-driven leadership development program designed to elevate mid-career members into senior leadership roles across the legal profession and beyond.
Selection to the Puente Leadership Institute involves a competitive selection process. Qualified applicants must be active HNBA members, have over 12 years of legal experience, and work either at a law firm or an in-house corporate legal department. They also need to demonstrate leadership accomplishments, program interest, and overall impact on the Hispanic legal community. The HNBA selects 30 participants for the program, which is split into two groups: 15 law firm attorneys and 15 corporate counsel division members.
About April
April is a trial attorney based out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She represents businesses, insurance companies, and individuals in a wide range of civil litigation matters in both state and federal courts. Her primary practice areas include commercial litigation, legal malpractice defense, insurance coverage disputes, and long-term care defense. Throughout her career, April has tried multiple cases to jury verdict and consistently brings a strong work ethic and diverse perspective to her practice.
In addition to her practice, April is an active leader in the Hispanic legal community. She was recently elected to the HNBA’s National Executive Committee and has held multiple leadership roles within the HNBA since 2019. April was also recognized as a 2025 Notable Latino Leader by Milwaukee BizTimes.
