Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is very pleased to announce that BizTimes Milwaukee has selected partner April Toy among its 2025 Notable Latino Leaders.
April is among 24 honorees recognized by the publication for “exceptional leadership and making an impact in their organizations and community.”
An accomplished and skilled litigator, April has a successful track record of representing clients in complex, high-value litigation and appellate matters. She has tried numerous cases to a favorable verdict and handles a wide range of cases, including commercial litigation, professional responsibility, and insurance coverage disputes.
As the daughter of a Salvadoran immigrant, April is committed to mentoring Hispanic and Latino associates and law students. She serves on the boards of several organizations that work to serve the Hispanic/Latino communities and other underserved communities. She is the sitting National Secretary of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and vice chair of the National Leadership Council of the Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement. In addition, April served on the board of the Wisconsin Trust Account Foundation, which administers grants to organizations that provide civil legal counsel to underrepresented communities.
She also founded the Wisconsin LAWtinas, an informal statewide group of Latina lawyers, legal professionals, and law students. The group meets quarterly as a mentoring network and provides educational resources to members on a wide range of issues, including personal financial planning, networking, and career advancement.
April is also committed to promoting wellness in the legal profession and frequently speaks about her own journey to recovery from alcohol addiction in an effort to help combat the stigma and encourage other legal professionals to seek help.
