Barbara Fernandez, the partner-in-charge of Hinshaw's Coral Gables office, was recently interviewed by Law360, in which she discussed the firm's new, modern office space at The Plaza.
Fernandez said the decision to keep the office in Coral Gables "shows our clients that we're committed to our local clients that are either in the neighborhood or nearby and also shows a commitment to our international clients, [many of whom also operate] out of Coral Gables."
Insurance-related work is a primary business focus for the Coral Gables office, according to Fernandez: "That's probably our busiest practice right now. We also have a strong real estate transactional practice that services clients, either in Coral Gables or nearby."
Fernandez said that the office was downsized from its previous location, but "we designed it in a way where it's very spacious, and we really built it out efficiently" to make it feel bigger with less square footage. She added:
"The Plaza is brand new, it's modern, and it has so many great features such as its culinary and entertainment offerings, and it provided us with unique employee benefits, such as the wellness room that's open to all tenants. And the space was something that we could build as our own,"
Having joined Hinshaw as a junior associate more than 20 years ago, Fernandez reflected on how Hinshaw's inclusive culture has supported her throughout her legal career:
"The reason why I stayed is because, from the beginning, I've had great partners as mentors, and [I] realized that I was going to really learn a lot at Hinshaw as a young associate and also have Hinshaw's support in the growth of my career. Eventually, I became a partner. There's longevity at Hinshaw because of the culture."
Fernandez said that work as a litigator can be challenging, "but when you're surrounded by colleagues who are supportive, and end up being your friends, it's an easier job to take in on a daily basis."
