Miami Partner-in-Charge Barbara Fernandez was among a series of law firm leaders quoted in a Law360 Pulse story regarding South Florida growth prospects in 2024.
Fernandez anticipated increased demand for consumer finance and insurance services, noting:
"[A] lot of the work that we handle has to do with student loan servicing, mortgage loan servicing, and when there is a recession or when interest rates are high, those matters actually end up increasing due to borrowers defaulting on their loans. And so we see that work come in for us."
To address this demand, Fernandez said the Miami office plans on adding to its attorney roster in 2024. The office hired additional associates and senior counsels in 2023, which will help support growth in 2024.
Fernandez also explained that new office space in The Plaza Coral Gables will facilitate collaboration and mentorship opportunities:
"When you hire an associate, you need to invest in the associate, and the face-to-face, I think, is the best way really for an associate to be able to learn how to be a lawyer."
