Janis M. Meyer was quoted in the article, "Into The Hereafter: 3 Things To Do When Your Client Dies," published by Law360 on December 5, 2016.
The article discusses what lawyers need to do after a client passes away to protect themselves and the interests of the deceased, which includes reestablishing who you do and do not represent. "If the client's spouse calls up and says 'I want you to do such and such,' you have to make sure he or she is the actual estate executor or administrator," said Ms. Meyer. "There can be real issues of authority in these situations for the lawyer to continue acting, and obviously that’s something that should be in writing."
