Hinshaw immigration partner Ian Wagreich was featured among Investment Migration Insider’s (IMI) “Investment Migration People in the News This Week” in connection with his commentary on federal immigration developments in recent Bloomberg Law and Chronicle of Higher Education media stories.
US Employers Must Pay New $100,000 Fee per H-1B Hire
In an article published by The Chronicle of Higher Education, Ian addressed the Trump Administration’s new requirement that US employers must pay a $100,000 fee for certain new H-1B hires, which is intended to discourage hiring international workers over US citizens.

Legal Questions Around the Trump “Gold Card”
Speaking with Bloomberg Law, Ian assessed the prospects of the Trump Administration’s proposed “gold card” visa, part of a broader initiative to attract new legal immigrants to the United States.
The framework has raised concerns because it would allow ultra-wealthy applicants to purchase visas typically reserved for top-tier, high-skilled workers. “If those visas are being used by people who simply have the money to pay…, I don’t think that’s a positive for the country. It has the potential for crowding out skilled professionals,” Ian said.
