About Dana
Dana defends financial services companies against individual and class action claims under various state and federal consumer laws, including the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA). She also provides regulatory compliance counseling and advises clients on mortgage-related litigation.
Dana has helped financial institutions, lenders, and mortgage loan servicers with matters involving New York State Department of Financial Services rules and COVID-19-related state actions impacting financial institutions.

Experience
- Secured the dismissal with prejudice of a Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) case. The consumer argued that the three letters they received, stating their account could be sent to an attorney if they did not contact the debt collector, violated the FDCPA. Hinshaw successfully argued the letters did not threaten imminent legal action.
- The regulatory and compliance team advises a leading national mortgage lender on all facets of origination compliance. The team has been asked to assist in a variety of complex compliance questions, including in the development of a new business product. They routinely advise on appropriate disclosures, potential risks across jurisdictions, and state and federal lending laws, and provide 50 state surveys on various topics.
