Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a U.S. law firm, has submitted comments to the California Attorney General regarding proposed regulations implementing the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). The CCPA, which goes into effect on January 1, 2020, addresses the processing of personal information of California consumers. It grants California consumers several of the same type of privacy rights found in the European Union's General Data Privacy Regulation (GDPR), including the right to access, delete, and object to the sale of their personal information.

The national law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is very pleased to announce that DRI—the Voice of the Defense Bar—has honored partner Steven M. Puiszis with the Louis B. Potter Lifetime Professional Service Award. The award is given annually to an individual who "exemplifies the highest professionalism and service to the legal profession." Puiszis received the award at a dinner ceremony during DRI's Annual Meeting in New Orleans, October 18, 2019.

By affirmatively holding that people have a "property interest in their personal information," the decision in Calhoun v. Google could herald the approach of a long-anticipated data litigation train.
