Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that partner Scott Seaman, co-chair of the firm’s Global Insurance Services Practice Group, has been appointed to serve on the Social Inflation Task Force of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) Center for Law and Public Policy.
Scott has written extensively about social inflation and its impact on the insurance industry and counsels companies on combating social inflation. Fueled by third-party litigation funding, nuclear verdicts, plaintiffs’ bar advertising, and other factors, social inflation is responsible for driving higher claim severity and impacting pricing and capacity. We provide links to some of Scott’s recent authorship on the topic below.
About the DRI Center for Law and Public Policy
DRI is an organization for legal professionals dedicated to protecting the interests of businesses and individuals in civil litigation. Established in 2012, the DRI Center for Law and Public Policy, “the Center”, advances the interests of the defense bar through research, legal insight, and advocacy. The Center plays a leading role in shaping discussions on substantive law, judicial processes, constitutional issues, and the integrity of the civil justice system at both the state and national levels.
About the Social Inflation Task Force
According to the DRI, the Social Inflation Task Force examines the drivers behind rising jury verdicts that exceed inflation-based expectations and develops strategies to address this trend. As a member of the Task Force, Scott will contribute to analyzing these developments and helping formulate practical approaches for those seeking fair and balanced outcomes in civil litigation.
