The law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP today announced that The American Lawyer has ranked the firm #47 in its 2023 Diversity Scorecard. Hinshaw improved its ranking by 36 positions from its 2022 ranking and continued its upward trend in the Scorecard for the fourth consecutive year. More than 225 of the nation's largest law firms were evaluated in the Scorecard.
Firms are ranked by Diversity Score, with the lowest number being the best. To determine the rankings, The American Lawyer goes beyond overall numbers and partner headcounts. Firms are ranked in a series of metrics assessing their percentage of racial and ethnic diversity across lawyer headcount by role; leadership of the executive committee, offices, and practice and industry groups; and hiring, retention, and promotion of diverse talent.
The firm's sharp upward trend in Scorecard rankings follows a commitment by the firm to participate in the Mansfield Rule certification – a process designed to boost the representation of diverse lawyers in law firm leadership by broadening the pool of candidates considered for these opportunities. Hinshaw was proud to announce it had secured Mansfield 5.0 Certification last year – in fact, exceeded certification requirements – and has also committed to participate in the Mansfield 6.0 Certification process.
