Hinshaw's Joanna Storey recently authored a blog post titled "The Ethics of Third-Party Litigation Funding." Published on the Bar Association of San Francisco's (BASF) Legal by the Bay blog, Storey's post reviews State Bar of California Standing Committee on Professional Responsibility and Conduct Formal Opinion No. 2020-204. The opinion addresses the ethical obligations that arise when a lawyer represents a client whose case is being funded by a third-party litigation funder, as well as the California Rules of Professional Conduct, of which lawyers must be mindful.
