In the article, Ms. Meyer discusses the steps law firms must take from both an ethical and practical standpoint, stating that the more prepared the firm, the more likely that closing can be accomplished without bloodshed. Ms. Meyer says that while there is no "one size fits all," some of the tasks that should be on the firm's radar include: reviewing the firm's governing agreement and applicable law; planning for employee departures; transferring client files efficiently and ethically; arranging for the safe transfer of records and escrow accounts; and paying attention to insurance issues.
