Hinshaw's Steve Puiszis has authored a comprehensive white paper on the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), published by the ABA's Journal of the Professional Lawyer, which provides clarity on the many issues the GDPR raises for law firms and their clients in the United States. We are pleased to offer a complimentary copy of this paper to Cyber Alert and Lawyers for the Profession® Alert readers.

For a shortened primer on the risk management issues that apply to U.S. Law Firms, see our March 2018 Cyber Alert titled "GDPR Implications for U.S. Law Firms." In that alert, we explained how the GDPR applies to any type of business that is established in the EU, including U.S. firms with offices in the EU. In addition, the GDPR could apply to law firms without an EU office, if the firm (i) offers goods or services to "natural persons" in the EU or (ii) monitors the behavior of persons in the EU.
