April 2, 2024

The law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that New York-based attorney Mohamed Sweify was named among the Arab America Foundation's (AAF) 2024 40 Under 40 Awardees.

Six judges from across the United States reviewed the self-nominated applications to select young Arab American professionals with achievements both in the workplace and in their communities. According to the AAF, "the program spotlights Arab American professionals in all fields, including education, law, public service/politics, nonprofit, business leaders, entrepreneurs, engineers, medical professionals, artists, entertainers, writers, and media representatives."

Sweify is a bilingual dual-qualified attorney with experience counseling, arbitrating, and litigating complex commercial and investment disputes. He has handled cross-border disputes under major arbitration rules, including commercial, investment, telecommunication, partnership, and shareholder disputes, oil and gas, construction, Islamic finance, and white-collar crime investigations.

With experience in both civil and common law jurisdictions, Sweify has handled international disputes before arbitral tribunals seated in different jurisdictions and before arbitrators with diverse backgrounds. Additionally, he has prosecutorial experience in Egypt, where he handled governmental corruption cases and investigations into financial crimes. He is also an adjunct professor at Fordham Law School.

Sweify holds leadership positions in international arbitration, including the International Dispute Resolution Committee Chair at the New York State Bar Association (NYSBA). In 2024, Sweify was elected the Chair of the Egypt Chapter of the International Section at NYSBA. In 2023, Sweify was appointed a member of CPR's Young Steering Committee (Y-ADR). In 2022, he was appointed by the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) as a delegate for the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR. Sweify was awarded the Africa's 30 Most Promising Arbitration Practitioners Award that same year. In addition, he is also a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) and the youngest arbitrator listed on the National Roster of Arbitrators of the American Arbitration Association (AAA/ICDR).

The AAF is a non-profit organization with a mission to promote Arab heritage, empower and connect Arab Americans, and build coalitions with diverse organizations across the United States.
