Hinshaw attorneys Scott Seaman and Ed Lenci recently authored an Expert Analysis article in Law360 titled "Reinsurers Must Prepare for Coronavirus-Related Claims." In the article, the authors discuss some of the recent legislative initiatives to have insurers pay non-covered COVID-19 claims, along with some recently filed COVID-19 coverage lawsuits. They anticipate that policyholders will be aggressive in seeking coverage, and that COVID-19 claims and resulting cessions will present challenges to insurers and reinsurers that will take many years to resolve. They point out that some of the key insurance coverage issues are likely to be imported into resulting reinsurance cessions. The article concludes by identifying some of the issues that may be presented by reinsurance cessions.
