Steven G. Gonzalez and Jose A. Herrera Paez Join Hinshaw’s Miami Office as Partners

The law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP today announced it has strengthened its Commercial Litigation and Business & Commercial Transactions practice groups with the addition of new partners Steven D. Gonzalez and Jose A. Herrera Paez.
"Hinshaw is pleased to welcome Steven and Jose’s diverse practices and make sure they take full advantage of Hinshaw’s national platform, practice support, and other growth synergies," said Pedro Hernandez, co-leader of Hinshaw's global Insurance Services Practice Group, as well as the firm's Latin America Team. "Our existing clients in Florida, Latin America, and across the United States will also benefit greatly from their experience in real estate development, construction, financing, commercial leasing, and commercial dispute litigation."
Gonzalez assists clients in all facets of real estate development, financing, construction contracting, administration, and commercial dispute litigation. He handles development financing, including tax-exempt and taxable bond-financed projects, and negotiates design and construction contracts. Gonzalez also manages project administration and dispute resolution and litigates complex construction cases.
Additionally, he assists clients in corporate entity formation, including drafting operating agreements, structuring buy-outs, and resolving employment disputes. Gonzalez has been selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America© for Litigation—Construction, 2018 – 2025; Construction Law, 2024 – 2025; and Florida Super Lawyers, Construction Litigation 2024. Gonzalez was formerly a partner with Weinberg, Wheeler, Hudgins, Gunn & Dial’s Miami office.
Active in the community, Gonzalez is a member of the South Florida Chapter of the Associated Builders and Contractors and the Association of General Contractors of America, the Dade County Bar Association’s Construction Law Committee, and the International Bar Association. He is admitted in Florida, Massachusetts, New York, the U.S. District Court for the Middle and Southern Districts of Florida, and the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts. He holds a J.D., cum laude, from New England School of Law and a B.A. from the University of Miami.
Herrera Paez focuses his practice on corporate structuring, commercial litigation, and risk management. His work also includes real estate transactions involving development, construction, financing, and foreclosures. He is well-versed in private equity transactions, such as private placement memoranda, limited partnerships, and mergers and acquisitions, as well as venture capital matters, including equity rounds and investment documents.
Herrera Paez has in-house experience in real estate and hospitality, focusing on development, construction, and lease agreements. He is fluent in Spanish, studied law in both Spain and Venezuela, is licensed to practice in Venezuela, and continues to practice Venezuelan law alongside his work at the firm. Herrera Paez was formerly a partner with Weinberg, Wheeler, Hudgins, Gunn & Dial’s Miami office.
In 2024, Herrera Paez was named an On the Rise Honoree for attorneys under the age of 40 from the Daily Business Review’s Florida Legal Awards. Herrera Paez serves as an adjunct professor at the University of Miami School of Law in the Transactional Skills program. He is admitted in Florida and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He holds an LL.M., cum laude, in U.S. and Transnational Law, and a J.D., cum laude, both from the University of Miami School of Law. He also holds an LL.M., with honors, from Instituto de Empresa, Venezuela.
