Hinshaw associate Sara Butler was recently featured in a "Pro Bono Volunteer Spotlight," published by the State Bar of Wisconsin in its April 2024 Pro Bono Newsletter.
The spotlight discusses Butler's interest in appellate practice and how she looked for opportunities as a pro bono attorney to gain appellate experience that would allow her to be a better practitioner for her clients.
The story describes how Butler accepted the appointment with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit to serve as a volunteer attorney representing indigent prisoners in their appeal. With the support of Hinshaw partner Josh Vincent, Butler took the criminal appeal through the briefing process. On January 4, 2024, she conducted oral argument in front of Circuit Judge Candace Jackson-Akiwumi, Judge Ilana Rovner, and Judge David Hamilton.
A decision on the case is currently pending.
In private practice, Butler focuses on litigation matters involving healthcare-related claims and issues. She also advises healthcare companies on legal and regulatory compliance issues and handles state and federal appeals.
