Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP is pleased to announce that Schuyler Kraus, partner-in-charge of the firm's New York and Washington, D.C., offices, has been selected by Crain's New York Business among its 2024 Notable Leaders in Accounting, Consulting & Law.
Each year, Crain's New York honors senior-level leaders in accounting, consulting, and law who have demonstrated effective change within their organizations, served as mentors, and contributed to their communities through leadership in nonprofit and professional organizations.
In his leadership roles, Kraus has significantly impacted Hinshaw's firmwide hiring and lateral recruitment in the Northeast. Since assuming leadership of the New York office, he has worked to double the attorney headcount from 19 to 50 and has driven the expansion of the office's practice capabilities to include employment, insurance, and privacy. In 2021, he played an instrumental role in opening the New Jersey office and initially served as partner-in-charge.
In addition, Kraus has been a leading force behind the expansion of Hinshaw's mortgage practice, which today is among the largest nationwide and a go-to legal resource for clients in the mortgage lending and servicing industry.
Kraus has served on Hinshaw's Management and Executive Committees and was previously co-chair of the Consumer Financial Services Practice Group. A dedicated mentor, he has guided countless associates on the path to partnership and counsels attorneys on business and professional development.
In addition to his leadership roles, Kraus manages an active practice representing leading national mortgage servicers, lenders, and investors in state and federal actions and appeals. He defends clients against consumer and class actions, litigation, and regulatory compliance matters.
Kraus is committed to service and volunteer work, beginning while earning his law degree at Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law. He co-founded and was co-president of Cardozo Advocates for Battered Women. Currently, he is actively involved in a local chapter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
He is a member of the New York Mortgage Bankers Association and a frequent speaker at conferences. He also serves on the Compliance Committee of the New York State Bar Association.
