CHICAGO, IL. Joshua G. Vincent, a Chicago-based Partner in the Appellate Group at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, has been selected to receive the Seventh Circuit Bar Association’s Pro Bono and Public Service Award for his outstanding pro bono work in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. The award will be presented at the association’s 61st Annual Meeting, on May 7, 2012 at the Hotel Intercontinental in Chicago.
Since 2003, Mr. Vincent has supervised the incoming class of new lawyers in Hinshaw’s Chicago office in the pro bono prosecution of direct criminal appeals in the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. The judges on the panel were Chief Judge Frank H. Easterbrook, Judge Joel M. Flaum and Judge Daniel A. Manion.
Mr. Vincent spearheaded Hinshaw’s adoption of its first pro bono policy and the establishment of its nationwide pro bono services committee. He also serves as Hinshaw’s Director of Professional Development and is heavily involved in the education and mentoring of the firm’s young lawyers. Since 1998, Mr. Vincent has had primary responsibility for running Hinshaw University, the firm’s nationwide attorney training and education program.
Mr. Vincent is a member of the Board of Directors of the Public Interest Law Initiative (PILI) and serves on its Pro Bono Initiative Committee. In 2007 he was invited to serve as a member of the CLE Advisory Group to the Commission on Professionalism of the Illinois Supreme Court, where he helps develop continuing legal education courses dedicated to professional responsibility.
Mr. Vincent has briefed and argued 300 appeals resulting in 160 published decisions. He has appeared 12 times in the Illinois Supreme Court. He has also appeared in the Florida Supreme Court; the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Seventh, Eighth, Ninth, Tenth and Federal Circuits; the New Jersey Appellate Division; the Ohio Appellate Court; and all districts of the Illinois Appellate Court.
Mr. Vincent earned his J.D. (1983) from DePaul University College of Law and his A.B. from the University of Michigan (1980).
