The national law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP today announced partner Hale Yazicioglu Lake has been selected as one of Boston Business Journal's 2018 "40 Under 40" honorees. She is a member of the firm's Consumer Financial Services Practice.
The 40 under 40 award is a project of the Boston Business Journal (BBJ) that recognizes 40 professionals under the age of 40 who are making a difference in their businesses and community. According to the publication, Lake was selected by its advisory board from more than 300 nominations submitted this year.
Lake joined Hinshaw in 2014 and was elected to partner this year. She has distinguished herself in consumer financial services litigation as part of Hinshaw's national team that has successfully represented mortgage lenders and servicers in complex matters following the fallout from the 2008 financial crisis. Lake has also built a broader practice representing clients in matters at the intersection of real estate, bankruptcy and banking law—fields often interrelated in today's economy.
In notifying Lake of her selection, the Journal wrote, "The Boston business community's future is truly bright thanks to young leaders like you."
"I am delighted by this honor," said Lake. "My parents taught me to shoot for the moon in every aspect of my life. I've taken that advice to heart in pursuing my career and in giving back to the community. Hinshaw has given me many opportunities to build a vibrant practice and thoroughly supported my civic involvement. This is a very proud day for me."
"We congratulate Hale for this well-deserved honor," said Sam Bodurtha, Partner-in-Charge of Hinshaw's Boston and Providence offices. "She is an exceptional attorney and a consummate community leader. We celebrate this stellar accomplishment, and recognition for her dedicated service to the firm, the legal profession and the Boston community."
A 2007 graduate of St. John's University School of Law who earned her B.A. from Boston College, Lake is a first generation American. Her parents emigrated from Turkey.
Lake is an active member of the Board of The Junior League of Boston. Among other efforts, she oversaw a 2017 conference to address advocacy on women's issues that was recognized as a model event by the Association of Junior Leagues International. Lake also is a member of the Fenway Community Development Corporation's Housing Committee, which is responsible for preserving and creating affordable housing in the Fenway neighborhood. She is an elected member of the Boston Ward 4 Democratic Committee and previously served as secretary of the Boston Ward 5 Democratic Committee.
