Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP Continues National Growth with Addition of Janis Meyer

New York, New York – January 5, 2015 – The national law firm of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP announced that Janis M. Meyer will join its New York office as a partner in the Lawyers for the Profession® practice group, effective January 1, 2015. Ms. Meyer will focus her practice on professional responsibility, legal ethics, risk management, human resources and insurance matters.

Prior to joining Hinshaw, Ms. Meyer was a partner and General Counsel at Dewey & LeBoeuf LLP, and subsequently served as a member of its Wind-Down Committee, overseeing the bankruptcy filing in 2012 and the wind-down of the firm. She has continued to serve as a consultant to the Dewey & LeBoeuf Liquidation Trust.

Ms. Meyer said she was drawn to Hinshaw because of its long history of exemplary client service and the firm's extensive practice in the area of counseling law firms. Ms. Meyer has experience in developing firm policies, forms and training programs spanning the issues arising in law firms, as well as supervising conflicts of interest, professional responsibility, and human resource issues, overseeing claims and conducting internal investigations. Ms. Meyer has also represented clients in a variety of industries, including banking, financial products, and insurance. She has served United States-based and international clients and has litigated cases in both state and federal courts.

Outside of her practice, Ms. Meyer is an Adjunct Professor of Law at The Maurice A. Deane School of Law at Hofstra University and teaches courses on "The Nuts & Bolts of Lawyering" and "Lawyers' Ethics." She is the immediate past chair of the Hofstra University Board of Trustees and has been a Trustee since 1993. Additionally, Ms. Meyer serves on the Association of the Bar of the City of New York's Committee on Professional Ethics, and was previously a member and chair of the Association's Committee on Recruitment and Retention of Lawyers, where she oversaw the New York City Bar Association's Diversity Fellowship Program which  placed more than 30 law students at law firms and corporate legal departments each year while she served as chair..

Ms. Meyer earned her B.A. from State University of New York, Stony Brook, M. A. from Ohio State University and J.D., with Distinction, from Hofstra University School of Law, where she was the managing editor of the Hofstra Law Review. After law school, she clerked for the Honorable George C. Pratt, in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York and the Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. She is admitted to practice law in New York.
