Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP today announced that Warren von Schleicher and Jacqueline J. Herring will join the firm as partners in the Chicago office, effective May 8, 2023. Previously with Smith, von Schleicher & Associates, von Schleicher and Herring represent insurers and employers in a wide array of matters related to ERISA, life, health, pension, and disability claims and insurance bad faith litigation.
"With a successful track record in courts nationwide, Jackie and Warren add significant depth to our litigation capabilities," said Hinshaw Chairman Peter Sullivan. "We have a number of shared clients, and they have worked closely with Hinshaw attorneys, including Dan Ryan, to defend clients in related litigation matters. We're thrilled that they have joined the firm in Chicago."
A founding partner with his previous firm, von Schleicher was previously the general counsel of a major national consumer products company. After earning his law degree, he served for 14 years in the U.S. Navy as a member of Judge Advocate General's Corps, and later practiced at Mayer Brown and Seyfarth Shaw. Recognized for his thought leadership, he has written extensively on ERISA, social welfare reform, and insurance coverage and has testified before the U.S. Department of Labor's ERISA Advisory Council on "Managing Disability Risks."
Herring has more than 25 years of experience as a trial attorney, representing clients in jury and bench trials. Prior to joining Smith, von Schleicher, she was supervisor of the Felony Trial Division of the public defender's office in Atlanta, where she tried violent felony cases before juries.
According to von Schleicher and Herring, Hinshaw provides them with an opportunity to expand their ERISA and life, health, and disability practices from coast to coast. With a shared commitment to diversity, they also noted the firm's strong support of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion initiatives and said they look forward to contributing to those efforts.
"Our practices are highly complementary with Hinshaw's litigation capabilities," von Schleicher said. "Together, we will continue to provide our clients with top-level service and also expand our geographic reach. We are also thrilled to join a firm that is clearly dedicated to increasing diversity in the legal industry."
Von Schleicher earned his B.A. in ancient language and literature, summa cum laude, from Boston University and his J.D. from University of Michigan Law School in Ann Arbor.
Herring received her B.A. in international affairs, cum laude, from George Washington University and her J.D. from Emory University School of Law.
