Hinshaw attorney Ofonedu-Ime Goodwyn, a member of the firm's commercial transactions and real estate practices, was recently profiled in the Daily Business Review. Goodwyn, who joined the firm in 2013, talked about how Hinshaw has given him a platform to represent companies, lenders, borrowers and developer in a series of high-profile deals.
"I'm with people who are really experienced and seasoned, people who have a lot of confidence in me," said Goodwyn. He recently worked on a team led by Hinshaw partner Steven Cronig to close a $54 million deal in November, representing a luxury condominium developer who bought a two acre lot in Miami's Edgewater neighborhood. Goodwyn also worked on the $13.4 million bankruptcy sale of One Bal Harbour Resort & Spa.
Goodwyn talked about how his values – "a centering around family, around values, around doing the right thing" – has shaped his career and life. In 2007, he left Wall Street law firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan to take a job as director of student activities at his alma mater, George School, a Quaker college preparatory school in Newtown, Pennsylvania. His high school mentor had alerted him about the role, which involved teaching classes on Quaker values and helping teenagers navigate life away from their families. "It resonated with me," said Goodwyn. "I knew that I really wanted to give back."
A father of two young girls, Goodwyn also credited his wife, Sharu, a University of Pennsylvania and Columbia University graduate, for anchoring the Goodwyn family household. "My wife is pretty awesome, [and] I'm pretty lucky," he said. "As much as I'm doing here, she's doing so much more there."
