Chicago — Thomas P. McGarry, a Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP partner was quoted in a December 17, 2013 Chicago Daily Law Bulletin article titled "In-house Counsel Get Law License Amnesty."
The article discusses a recent Illinois Supreme Court decision to approve an amnesty program that will allow corporate counsel to get a limited state law license. In-house counsel who did not previously comply with rule 716 now have the chance to do so without risking disciplinary sanctions.
Mr. McGarry says "Given how the unauthorized practice of law is taken very seriously here by the court and by the bar, recognizing amnesty is really a great offering to in-house counsel to get registered for their limited license to practice in Illinois."
