Thomas P. McGarry and Thomas P. Sukowicz co-authored an article for Chicago Lawyer magazine. The article, titled "Ethics: No divided loyalty in court," addresses the increasing occurrences of a lawyer being accused of breaching a duty owed — not to his or her client, but to a third party with whom the lawyer never had an attorney-client relationship and even to a party who is adverse to the lawyer's client.
