In his capacity as co-chair of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's Task Force on Police Accountability, Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP partner Sergio E. Acosta spoke with reporters about the task force's recommendations for a new video and audio release policy related to Chicago police-involved shootings and in-custody incidents involving death or great bodily harm. In a February 16, 2016, press release, the task force recommended "that recordings and certain related police reports be released to the public no later than 60 calendar days from the date of any incident that falls within the scope of the policy, while allowing entities that may be investigating the incident to request a delay of release limited to 30 days."
Mr. Acosta is an experienced criminal litigator and investigator and leads Hinshaw's White Collar Defense & Internal Investigations Practice Group. He has represented companies, government entities and individuals in matters involving the FCPA, complex financial fraud, criminal tax violations, export regulations and criminal forfeiture. His practice also encompasses corporate governance, corporate internal investigations, regulatory enforcement, commercial litigation and gaming law. Before joining Hinshaw, Mr. Acosta held leading roles in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Northern District of Illinois; served as Administrator of the Illinois Gaming Board; and was a prosecutor in the Miami-Dade County State Attorney's Office. He also served as a member of then-Illinois Governor Pat Quinn's Illinois Concealed Carry License Review Board.
