Robert T. Shannon, a Partner in the Chicago office of Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, authored the article, “Hurd's Arrest May Lead to Larger Fallout of Other NFL Players, Teams,” which appeared in the January 10, 2012, edition of the Chicago Daily Law Bulletin.
The article discusses the arrest of Sam Hurd—formerly a wide receiver for the Chicago Bears—his subsequent indictment for conspiracy to distribute 11 pounds or more of cocaine, and the fallout for the Bears and the National Football League (NFL). Writes Mr. Shannon in the article, “This obviously is a sensitive situation for the Chicago Bears organization, but perhaps others too. Several national news outlets reported on an ‘as of yet to be released’ list of other NFL players that are allegedly linked to Hurd.” The NFL has denied that it is aware of any list of players, and Mr. Hurd has denied all of the allegations against him and of “other player involvement or supplying drugs to other players.”
Mr. Shannon has served as litigation counsel for the Chicago White Sox for more than 10 years. Through this work and that for hospitality clients, he has developed a practice focus in defending public venues in security, premises and tort matters. Additionally, Mr. Shannon works with the gaming and hospitality industries and other corporate clients, handling litigation, licensing and regulatory matters. Mr. Shannon also has an extensive practice defending Illinois state agencies, and county and municipal governments in litigation.
