Hinshaw partners Suzanne Jones and Yvonne Ocrant authored an article titled "Understanding Minnesota's Equine Liability Statute," which was originally published in the University of Minnesota Equine Extension Newsletter and republished by Farm Forum. The article reviews Minnesota's Equine Liability Statute and is the first installment of a series of articles that will discuss legal issues confronting the Minnesota horse industry.
Jones and Ocrant caution those active in the equine world of Minnesota to remember that the Equine Liability Statute, Minn. Stat. § 604A.12, is "not a 'zero liability' law." They go on to discuss who is protected under the statute, what the immunity protects against, the activities that fall within the immunity, the exceptions to immunity, and the notice requirements that apply to activity sponsors.
