Law360 recently reported on remarks Hinshaw's Aimee Delaney gave at the First Chair Equal Pay Summit. In the presentation, Delaney discussed the recent uptick in gender bias lawsuits filed against law firms, and recommended that law firms institute pay audits in an effort to mitigate risk.
"Law firms need to start doing pay audits internally so they know what kind of problem they're dealing with," Delaney is quoting as saying. She also recommended that firms hire an outside lawyer so that the auditing process can qualify for attorney-client privilege protections.
"If you come at it like a business comes at it, you're going to improve your chances of objectively seeing the problems in the organization and working to change them," she added. “If not, you may not have the luxury of an audit — you may get a complaint."
