Janis M. Meyer was quoted in the article "Engagement Letters, Waivers Seen as Keys to Managing Risks," published by Bloomberg BNA March 8, 2016.
The article summarizes the panel "Getting Engaged: A New Look at Engagement Letters (and Outside Counsel Guidelines)" presented at the 15th Annual Legal Malpractice and Risk Management Conference (LMRM) in Chicago. The panel agreed that retainer agreements present an ideal way for law firms to lower their risk profile.
Acting as moderator, Ms. Meyer asked "whether prospective clients sometimes say they just don't do engagement letters." While one panelist said it is rare, a live audience poll showed that some firms make an exception to the policy of requiring engagement letters.
