Hinshaw partner and current president of the Appellate Lawyers Association Gretchen Harris Sperry recently moderated a question-and-answer session involving several candidates for an open seat on the Illinois Supreme Court. In attendance were First District Appellate Justices Jesse G. Reyes, Cynthia Y. Cobbs, Margaret Stanton McBride, and Nathanial R. Howse Jr., along with lawyer Daniel Epstein.
The candidates addressed questions about how to improve diversity on the bench, how they would use the court's administrative power, and under what circumstances legal precedent should be overruled.
The event received media coverage from Law360 in an article titled "Ill. Supreme Court Hopefuls Say Court Precedent Can Evolve" (subscription required) and a front cover Chicago Daily Law Bulletin story titled "Top court candidates take questions from appellate lawyers" (subscription required).
