Hinshaw partner and former federal prosecutor David S. Weinstein discussed in a recent Politico article the legal obligations of candidates for political office when receiving offers of election assistance by agents of foreign powers.
According to Weinstein, any American connected to an election has a “fundamental responsibility” to report contact with foreign agents, with repercussions on national security and potential violations of foreign lobbying laws.
