Hinshaw & Culberston LLP partner David Alfini was recently quoted in the Law360 article "Attorneys Rally Around High Court's Gay Marriage Decision." Attorneys across the country applauded the court for their landmark decision while reflecting on the long struggle gay couples have faced to gain full acceptance in the eyes of the law.
The article takes a look at lawyer's responses to the U.S Supreme Court's 5-4 decision legally allowing gay marriage across the United States. Mr. Alfini explains in the article why this Supreme Court decision is so influential and significant.
"This will go down as one of the most influential decisions in the history of the Supreme Court. It is not an overstatement to say that the world will never be the same. Justice Kennedy's opinion was impressive in both its legal analysis and the compassion with which the issues were addressed. Even Justice Roberts' dissent evidenced respect for the LGBT community. The court has sent a clear message that LGBT people can live and love openly in the United States of America."
