Hinshaw partner Neil Rollnick has spent over half a century transforming complex real estate and banking deals into stories of people, places, and possibilities. At 83, he still starts his mornings with the same steady curiosity he brought to his first closing—a mindset that recently led to a successful $10.6 million commercial real estate deal in Coconut Grove, Florida, which established space for both a national chain and several small businesses.
As chronicled by the Daily Business Review, Neil’s path began as a first-generation college student who learned early that momentum comes from preparation, patience, and perspective. Those lessons carried him into a high-profile career defined by multi-million-dollar transactions and high-stakes counsel on both sides of the table—representing sellers, purchasers, and developers of valuable multi-residential and commercial properties, as well as lenders and borrowers who rely on clarity and conviction to move forward.
Neil credits Sun Tzu’s The Art of War's philosophy with shaping his approach to advocacy and client service, an ethos he has shared with younger attorneys throughout his tenure. “Life doesn't have to be a war,” he said. “You can move very gently into the teachings—you can apply them to making eggs for breakfast in the morning.”
Since joining Hinshaw in 2011, Neil has negotiated many significant transactions. He has taught at the University of Miami School of Law, mentored countless young attorneys, and previously chaired a national real estate department, shaping practice standards while encouraging the next generation to find their own voice. His legacy is neither a list of closings nor a ledger of deals, but the people he has lifted up—clients who found their footing and colleagues who discovered their craft.
When asked about retirement, Neil said, “I don't want to wake up and look forward to a day that the only thing I have to do is go out in the yard and broom back some leaves.” He remains excited by his work—enjoying the challenges of helping clients, negotiating, and interacting with people. The energy that carried him through 57 years of practice has not dimmed; it has refined. For Neil, his journey continues with thoughtfully constructed deals and new opportunities for South Florida.
