Steve Puiszis—a Chicago-based partner at Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP who also serves as the firm's General Counsel, Privacy, Security and Compliance—will serve as a panelist for an American Bar Association (ABA) webinar on September 20, 2017 at 1:00 pm – 2:30 pm EDT. The webinar titled "Information Governance: The Ethics of Data Protection and of Data Breach Reaction" will provide attendees with an understanding of the ethical duties of lawyers and law firms to prevent information from being accessed by hackers, and how they should respond in the event of a data breach.
The panelists will:
- Help you understand what steps are necessary to comply with your ethical obligations (the duty of technological competence under MRPC 1.1 and the duty to preserve client information and property under MRPC 1.6)
- Provide tips on avoiding disciplinary exposure
- Suggest ways to prevent possible legal malpractice claims
- Explain how to safeguard your electronic data and confidential client information and property
